Bob TCB wrote:You are probably correct, but the information is coming from a bootlegger that marked the whole false start and take two as the first take. It's from an older boot called, "Elvis Takes The First." I know that there is a take two, but this sounds really bluesier than what I heard before.
Well, if you manage to put it up here, or link to it, it will be interesting to hear. Nothing is listed on Keith Flynn's site though apart from the regular takes.
I wish I could give links off of my boots to share, but I am not a computer geek. My wife would not want me doing that anyway. You know how once you are married, your life and priorities change. When I first got into rock bootlegs, they were purchased at independent record shops that sadly are no longer in operation. There are a couple strange outtake collections that stand out where" I can not tell where the songs came from. My guess is that they were possibly stolen from the RCA vaults by a disgruntled employee and later sold to bootleggers. I have managed to be have been fortunate to hear some unbelievable Elvis stuff that does not exist anywhere else. It is kind of difficult to weed it out from just standard releases like FTD's. Some friends also gave me a few things too that were manufactured in Italy in the early 90's of live recordings. As studio stuff, "Elvis Takes The First" is a memorable one, but there is another strange title called, "I Couldn't Live Without You" and other titles of take ones that have what sound like pure stereo Sun recordings. However, the other titles are not silver discs, but CDR's. At least, I could listen to them. "I Couldn't Live Without You" is a silver disc by a label called "Snowy" with a white dog. The cd itself is not that impressive but it does have a couple isolated solo tracks of "Gold In The Mountains" and "Anyone" that was missing from the "Kissin' Cousins" FTD. There are also unheard overdubs of mixes of hodgepodge songs. Those boots that I named are just two examples of why I believe certain Elvis outtakes were obviously taken from RCA years ago.
I can only assume that some other stuff is missing and is still in private collections that we haven't heard yet. I won't get into the German box sets. They are my prizes. All of it is from the sixties in pristine stereo sound, much better than anything released in the USA by RCA.
