Right - Yes, you're right ! I'll amend that !
John wrote:... Nothing is listed on Keith Flynn's site though apart from the regular takes.
Colin B wrote:The notes I posted earlier are more accurate than Keith's.

I've got the exact timings for each & every 'false start', however brief.
I think Keith counts the chatter and count-ins in his timing sometimes. Like you, I only count from when the music starts to when it stops.

Yes, & he'll lump together "FS+Comp" whereas we show them separately with the proper timings.

My list of releases, however, must be considered to include the 'highlights' only.
I think you should start a web site.
Bit beyond my limited computer know-how ! You start one !
The best official release to get all the takes on this song is the excellent: Elvis Sings Guitar Man [FTD 98] from 2011.

John wrote:There are no unreleased takes of Tomorrow Is A Long Time. There is one false start (take 1) and and two complete takes, all available officially.
Bob TCB wrote:You are probably correct, but the information is coming from a bootlegger that marked the whole false start and take two as the first take. It's from an older boot called, "Elvis Takes The First." I know that there is a take two, but this sounds really bluesier than what I heard before.

Well, if you manage to put it up here, or link to it, it will be interesting to hear. Nothing is listed on Keith Flynn's site though apart from the regular takes.

I wish I could give links off of my boots to share, but I am not a computer geek. My wife would not want me doing that anyway. You know how once you are married, your life and priorities change. When I first got into rock bootlegs, they were purchased at independent record shops that sadly are no longer in operation. There are a couple strange outtake collections that stand out where" I can not tell where the songs came from. My guess is that they were possibly stolen from the RCA vaults by a disgruntled employee and later sold to bootleggers. I have managed to be have been fortunate to hear some unbelievable Elvis stuff that does not exist anywhere else. It is kind of difficult to weed it out from just standard releases like FTD's. Some friends also gave me a few things too that were manufactured in Italy in the early 90's of live recordings. As studio stuff, "Elvis Takes The First" is a memorable one, but there is another strange title called, "I Couldn't Live Without You" and other titles of take ones that have what sound like pure stereo Sun recordings. However, the other titles are not silver discs, but CDR's. At least, I could listen to them. "I Couldn't Live Without You" is a silver disc by a label called "Snowy" with a white dog. The cd itself is not that impressive but it does have a couple isolated solo tracks of "Gold In The Mountains" and "Anyone" that was missing from the "Kissin' Cousins" FTD. There are also unheard overdubs of mixes of hodgepodge songs. Those boots that I named are just two examples of why I believe certain Elvis outtakes were obviously taken from RCA years ago.

I can only assume that some other stuff is missing and is still in private collections that we haven't heard yet. I won't get into the German box sets. They are my prizes. All of it is from the sixties in pristine stereo sound, much better than anything released in the USA by RCA.

In terms of live material, I think this is a complete maze and I'm sure there are things floating about from a multitude of sources.

As studio stuff, "Elvis Takes The First" is a memorable one,
I'd say everything on here is available elsewhere. If it wasn't, believe me, we'd know. The bootleggers might "re-mix" some of the songs, but if that's the case, they're not worth collecting.

but there is another strange title called, "I Couldn't Live Without You"
This song is nothing to do with Elvis.

and other titles of take ones that have what sound like pure stereo Sun recordings.
I can assure you there is nothing unreleased. In fact I can guarantee it.

I really don't think there's anything of importance here that is not available elsewhere.

That's for sure, but no one knows for certain what these titles are, apart from the collectors of course, and maybe someone like Ernst Jorgenssen.

And yet, "The First Takes" is forbidden for sale. The other CD's are a 5 disc set, which all all take ones. Unfortunately, in that case, they are CDR's. I already know that "I Couldn't Live Without You" isn't Elvis. Never said it was. I was referring to the two isolated solo tracks from "Kissin' Cousins." They were not on the recently released FTD. The example you listed is not the title.

The box sets I was referring to of crystal clear stereo outtakes obviously came from the RCA vaults in Germany, released on Cool Romemo in 2002. There was supposed to be another set of boxes of the seventies, but RCA blocked its release. The boxes are hard to come by because RCA immediately shut them down. As far as CD's being worth money for being rare, I would not know. That is why I seek original vinyl albums and 45's but do not play.

From the review -- "He released some brilliant gospel albums (How Great Thou Art, Promised Land)" ... Promised Land?
I'm happy to be an Elvis fan! 8-)

Obviously, the critic thinks "Promised Land" is a Gospel album, which would make the crappy review invalid. Did the reviewer even listen to the album?

Laughable.

It's a somewhat snooty site, but even they had to admit to liking some of the album !

True! And it was written in entertaining prose.

AllMusic Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Although it's not produced by the same team, it's best to view Where No One Stands Alone as part of the lineage that stretches back to 2016's The Wonder of You. That album, executive produced by Priscilla Presley, dressed original Presley recordings in overdubs by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It was so successful -- it topped the U.K. charts -- that three sequels were commissioned before the formula was changed for 2018's Where No One Stands Alone. This record follows the same principle as its predecessors, but the focus is shifted: this time, original Elvis Presley gospel recordings are given new instrumental overdubs. Same idea, but the intention is different: the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra records were purposeful schlock, but this attempts to modernize Elvis gospel sides, most of which were recorded in the late '60s or early '70s. The basic arrangements and many of the instruments remain in place, but the polish is slick and punchy, moving these tracks ever so slightly away from Southern gospel and into CCM. It's a subtle shift but it's a notable one, creating an uncanny valley effect: it seems like it's the real Elvis but there's enough distance between the original elements and the new material to show it's not. Comparatively, it's better than the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra records, but there's also less reason to hear this, as it's so similar to the originals, why not put those on instead?

Wrong spelling for CCR?

Nah. CCM = Contemporary Christian Music.
