Rare Buddy

Postby WalterHaleJnr » Fri Feb 20, 2015 10:45 am

Found these rather interesting videos -

Listen at the end where he says 'I Used to Know Elvis Quite Well'. Interesting comment.

Thanks a lot! Amazing footage!

´Nikki Sullivan quit the band to go back to school´. How about that? ;)

Elvis performed in Lubbock a lot in those early years, so it is possible the two knew eachother before Elvis hit it big, but ´quite well´ ... I don´t know.

Always liked this picture with Buddy to the far right:

It's a shame that the two of them were not photographed together. Or maybe they were and the photo hasn't surfaced yet.

I have always enjoyed this VERY much.
It´s about as close and intimate as you can get to a Buddy Holly rehearsal/recording session.
To hear these guys at work, trying out different things, Buddy talking in between takes, fooling around, and of course those magnificent jungle sounds!

At one point Buddy goes ´Let´s see what it sounds it, just for the heck of it (...) Huh??? (...) Did you record it?´ - he was unaware that somebody had already pressend the REC button! And what a cool recording this is!

Buddy Holly is one of the absolute greatest!!

Private telephone call recorded at Buddy's end with Decca man Paul Cohen, basically on the issue of whether he could re-record his earlier songs on another label after his disappointment with Decca in the year 1956. Quote Cohen: 'Anything you make with Decca you can't record for 5 years'. What a prick!

He re-recorded one track 'That'll be the Day' under the Crickets name for Brunswick label that was owned by Decca.
