Hi, Have you read my post on this subject. I too, poked holes in the Ed Leek story big time.
It seems everyone wants to believe his story, but it's filled with holes.
It makes no sense really. If you get a chance check my post on this story.
Thanks for posting what you did, you have added a few things I left out. ie. more holes in the story.
I had forgotten about the condition of the disc, and Ed claimed it was in his possession and in a safety dep. box for years virtually unplayed.
Not likely

I'm not sure, cadillac-elvis. Have you got a link to your post, please.

I was wrong I posted something on another forum....but I did post this, because the subject came up during the spa guy video thread.

"I have been vocal on the Ed leek thing for years. It all doesn't add up.
Bare in mind, so much mis-information about the two personal records has come forth over the years,
it really is difficult to tell one story from the next and which record it's pertaining to.
I don't think we will ever know the true story.

We are asked to believe it was Ed who kept after Elvis to make a record. ????
We are asked to believe Ed accompanyed Elvis over to the studio to make the record. ?????
Elvis nor anyone has ever said, "Oh I went with a friend over to the studio to make the record". did Marion remember Ed? doubt it.
So then.....Elvis makes a record for the first time, and he doesn't play it for his mother and father or his girlfriend, because
he doesn't have a record player????
So, what does elvis do????....bring them all over to Ed's grandmother's place to hear the record??
according to Ed, he and Elvis went right
over there, and Elvis left it, and never again looked at it, picked it up, nor played it for anyone?
Just Ed, and his grandmother. yeah right.
This is so farfetched I can't stand it.

The record was made in either july or august, but I have seen claims of july 18th without any proof.
According to Dixie he had a record player.
No one in Elvis' world remembers Ed leek.

In early 1956 Elvis said he still had the dub at his house.

Then later in 1956, he claimed to have lost the dub.

Why would Elvis say these things.
And how did the second dub get removed from Elvis' house?
I think the same way the first one did.
I can't recall where I read it, but Elvis' parents, his mother especially was way to friendly with the fans, and so was Elvis.
They let them in the Audubon drive house and let them roam freely, very trusting.
One article claims Gladys gave some girls a tour of the house and his bedroom while he was on tour. Crazy stuff.
And according to one article which I no longer have, is that because of this happening, so much stuff got "lost".
The article said, "stolen". but elvis was not going to say that to any interviewer. He said "lost".
He knew he had those discs and now they were gone.
Translation: The fans were taking things as souvenirs. Not that hard to comprehend.
I realize I have no proof, but this is my gut feeling based on the facts being so jumbled and that they don't add up.
But, i think those discs probably exchanged hands a few times in the ensuing years.
No way do I believe Ed's story. I apologize if I ruffle feathers, but the facts don't line up.
If they did, I would have no trouble in accepting the story.
I am in no way saying Ed stole the disc, but I think he bought it from someone who had it, knowing or unknowing what it was.
After Elvis died, he came forward and it was time to cash in on his investment.
His story makes a good story, but to me, it's just a story."

Thanks both. I agree that the Leek story stinks.

After talking with Ed Leek dozens of times long distance by telephone I know what he would have said about this thread. :-)
Ed was a no nonsense straight shooter kind of guy. Intelligent and transparently honest.

I just wonder if you called him out on all the holes in his story?

Wonder away.

I just wonder why you never asked Ed Leek himself? The stories he put out were there for millions of Elvis fans since 1989.

Movie star, Rock Hudson was at my uncles wedding here in Dublin Ireland. A story not covered by the media. True nevertheless. I have a photo. :-)

I love those times, Maurice.

Anyway, the stories (including Elizabeth Taylor), as he interacted with the famous people in Hollywood, unfortunately, the stories go when people such as these pass on.

Did you speak with Rock Hudson?

Would you do that in real life, cadillac-elvis? See someone who is a stranger, and pull them up on something?

I am always curious as to how people work, and always learning. :D

Thank you, Mountain Mist. I did not speak with Rock Hudson as I was not at the wedding, I was living In the England at the time. My uncle was the concierge at the famous Shelbourne hotel here in Dublin where all the movie stars stayed. He escorted Grace Kelly into the place in the 1960s. He usually drove Rock Hudson around when he was in Dublin.

Some People do not understand every celebrity story was not newsworthy back then.
I played chess with the 'Captain of the Titanic'.

Okay he was only a student actor Bernard Hill back in 1971. :-) 'Star of, The Black Stuff, on TV.

As regards the Presley home not having a record player - they didn't have a phone either, but Sam & Marion were able to ring him.

They had a neighbour with a phone who would summon them round to answer calls.

Said neighbour, or another one, could easily have had a record player & may have loaned it to them.

I know my first interest in records sprung from listening to them on a 'borrowed' portable player !

You are welcome, Maurice and thank you, too.

Did your uncle share any of his thoughts on Rock Hudson?

Was Grace Kelly as beautiful as she appeared on TV? What were your uncle's impressions of Grace Kelly?

Uncle Stanley said that Elizabeth Taylor was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen; however, she swore like a sailor, lol (which surprised me).

Uncle Stanley (Welsh heritage) did not speak of the Hollywood parties he attended (of course).

if someone lies to my face, i call them out.
I would have never had any reason to talk to Ed Leek, since I don't think he is part of the story.
After reading some of the evidence by the original poster, what do you think at this point?

Sounds like you had a wonderful friendship with Ed Leek. And that's really nice. Let's park that there for the moment, if we can. What do you think about the acetate's trashed condition?
