Elvis 69-The box set

Since 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of arguably the most crucial year in Elvis' career, Sony should put together a deluxe box set covering the entire year of 1969. It could be done in the form of Prince From Another Planet but in a 5 disc set with a 50-page booklet. All tracks newly remixed in HD sound. Below is how it could be presented.

Memphis sessions 1

Disc 2
Master Recordings - February-March 1969
Memphis sessions 2,
Plus the 4 songs for Change Of Habit in California.

Disc 3
Undubbed Masters & Alternate Mixes

Disc 4
Live At The International - August 1969
A compilation of every song performed during that first engagement at the International Hotel, mostly unreleased multi-track recordings.

Disc 5 (DVD)
1969 - Year Of The Comeback
A 30-minute documentary on the year 1969, featuring rare and unseen mm footage.
Also a 50-pic photo gallery of rare shots throughout the year.



If given some proper promotion and commercial advertising, a set like this could be very successful in both sales and recognition and appreciation of Elvis' greatest work both in studio and on stage. It should be released in January on his birthday for better sales opportunity. Or, in August during Elvis Week.

Or will be the art director of this CD set found dead,driven over by his own car , after he handcuffed himself?

Not for me - i only want total reworkings total new backing new arr using all takes, new phrasing in parts etc

And aimed at the mainstream market, not like this crummy 68 Special box aimed at collectors.

I think they should substitute the main vocal from that obscure singer first.
After that...new arrangements.

What you want is just re-release that will be aimed at collectors and do nothing for Elvis mainstream. Mainstream success is the only thing that will get us better projects and get the unreleased stuff done that is currently stuck in the vaults.
Plus after mainstream success you can have your 69 stuff done properly with multichannel releases that will be far superior than anything on cd.

There's room for both original recordings box set remixed in HD and a new remagined album, a la, Where No One Stands Alone.

The vocal is all that matters, and it has been isolated in it's hundreds of hours worth.

So there is a truckload of reworkings coming.

To get this thread back on a serious note , the years 1968 and 1969 were iconic for Elvis as he proved he was "relevant" again especially to the "underground" press like Rolling Stone . Fusion and Crawdaddy .
I'd buy a box set like this , or separate sets focusing on Memphis and Vegas.

Not that I wouldn't welcome more 1969, but we got 3 fantastic studio sets from FTD, AND some great concerts from August 1969.

If they were able to add something new, I'd definitely welcome that. The remaining '69 multitrack recordings in a complete concert from would be a nice idea for such release.
