I can't understand why Elvis insisted about music improving just because of it being more formally complex, because of having more instruments, etc. He repeated the same thing during the 68 sit-down shows. He must have felt the "How Great Thou Art" album was an improvement over the "His Hand In Mine" album.

"What about your Sun singles ?", I would have asked him. "They sure got a lot of echo", could have been the answer, I'm afraid.
