Here a scan from acetate with demo versions by Tepper-Bennett writing team. The first ones were recorded for the movie Spinout.

It seems that Travelin' light was recorded by Cliff Richard. It is out of my interests to look for more information about that.

Regarding "Travellin' Light", it was indeed originally recorded in 1959 by Cliff Richard and The Shadows, a number 1 in England and other countries too. It was later covered by other artists, such as Herman's Hermits.

Please note the different spellings of the title on the record label and the sheet music - a quick Google search tells me both spellings are correct.

Young hearts

This song written by Tepper & Bennett should be recorded on 07-05-57 for the movie Jailhouse rock (track 2018). It was rejected but on 31-05-57 recorded by Jim Reeves (RCA 47-6973).

This song has always sounded to me like a poor man's "Young Love", the Ric Cartey song that was a big hit in early 1957 for both Sonny James and Tab Hunter.

Cartey's original had been recorded and released in 1956 by the Stars label, as a b-side. RCA Victor leased the masters and released the record under their imprint, with no success. Instead, Capitol (James) and Dot (Hunter) scored two huge hits with the song.

So, in this sense, this Jim Reeves recording may have been an attempt by RCA to regain what they surely felt had been robbed from them, so to speak.

I'm glad Elvis did not record this second rate song, and concentrated on the excellent material he was given for the soundtrack of his third movie.
