Special Edition Renauld Elvis Presley Sunglasses

Postby jeff12jones » Tue Oct 31, 2023 5:50 pm

Elvis Presley’s classic Renauld Sunglasses Return with a ‘real piece of Elvis’ memorabilia housed in the lens.

• Re-introduction of the Elvis Presley sunglasses from the original makers, Renauld.
• Two global firsts - first integrated Elvis’s keepsake in a product and secondly integrated into a sunglass’s lens.
• First collaboration for the Renauld sunglasses brand with the Elvis Presley Estate and Authentic Brands Group (Authentic)
• Three models based around the iconic Renauld Sixty-One model

Renauld and Authentic Brands Group are proud to announce a collaboration to produce a special edition sunglass to be known as the ‘Elvis’ by Renauld.
Throughout the early Sixties, Elvis was an enthusiastic fan of Renauld and recently several new images have surfaced of him wearing the brand at
various filming locations and events.

The corroborated story goes that while filming ‘Follow that Dream’, in Ocala, Florida, in 1961, Elvis decided he wanted a pair of the new wraparound sunglasses and sent his security to town to buy some. When they returned to say they were sold out, Elvis spied someone wearing the sunglasses in the crowd of 100’s asking for autographs. After a brief negotiation between the owner and the security guard the sunglasses changed hands for $100 and Elvis wore them for at least the next 2 years.

Renauld has collaborated with the owners of the Elvis Presley estate, Authentic, in customizing the Elvis Edition of the Renauld Sixty-One and its unique leather case. In fact, three new sunglass models have been designed, incorporating some new patented technology.
The Elvis ‘Memphis’ by Renauld sunglass is presented in 24ct gold plate with a beautiful black and gold leather case embossed with a distinctive Elvis Presley signature. Based on the iconic Renauld Sixty-One, the sunglass is unique in that it contains a ‘real piece of Elvis’ keepsake housed within the lens.

This patented and radical Renauld precision lens engineering seamlessly integrates a wafer-thin, transparent and vacuum-sealed compartment into the aerodynamic shape of the lens. That compartment forever encapsulates part of Elvis’s actual heritage. Each sunglass arrives with a Renauld certificate of authenticity. The retail price is $1,495.00 USD.

The Elvis ‘Vegas’ is also based on the iconic and original Renauld Sixty-One , presented in 24ct gold plate, with Elvis signature engraved on the arms and lenses with a grey lenses. Each model is numbered so no two sunglasses are the same. These highly coveted glasses will be handcrafted at our exclusive factory in Italy. The Elvis ‘Vegas’ will retail for $895.00 USD.

The Elvis ‘Tupelo’ is also based on the iconic and original Renauld Sixty-One in high quality chrome with Elvis signature engraved on the arms and lenses with a grey lens. The original colour combination of the pair worn on the set of ‘Follow that Dream’. The Elvis ‘Tupelo’ will retail for $495.00 USD.

All models are equipped with optically perfect and glare-proof wraparound UV400 performance lenses made by Divel Italia.

My Dad used to wear these sunglasses when I was a kid. I wish I knew what he did with them.

My Dad also wore the Polaroid 8004 aviators but they had black frames with chrome arms.

I wonder how much they were in the 60’s? I’m sure not too much. My Dad would have never paid a ridiculous amount for sunglasses.

They could have been sold in department stores or they could have been sold in drug stores and gas stations.

Ok. So not that ridiculous in the 60’s. I think the Polaroid 8004’s that became Elvis’ trademark were probably similar priced. I remember seeing those on sunglass racks in the late 60’s and 70’s. I can still remember the little tag on the glasses that had a little spot of polarized film as the pupil of an eye.
