I worked it out from the sheet music I had. I was just beginning to learn to play guitar back then in the mid 60s, and there was no such thing as the internet and there was no where else that I knew of where you could hear the song. I learned the notes and the chords and practised it over and over.

By the time he wrote his book,
too many people had died, and too much time
had gone by for him to come up with much in the way
of session notes.
It's too bad no one did investigation like this way back when.
All we have now is circumstantial evidence and speculation.

I doubt very much Ernst is paid to keep secrets. You sound like a fictional crime writer.

Well, how many in depth interviews has he given in the last 10 years that tells of fantastic stuff they have?
And even before that the interviews he gave didn't tell hardly anything.
I know I know, he's forbidden by Sony to spills the beans.
What beans? The secret beans, that's what beans.
He's probably right now sitting in his man cave rocking out to Elvis' version of tennessee saturday night.
Mojo Filter wrote:The last i heard, and from a good source, is Ernst every Sunday afternoon goes to his "man cave" and listens to 24 unreleased Sun reel tapes.
While he's enjoying listening to outtakes of "Tennessee Saturday Night" and "Tiger Man" etc he's holding a glass of wine in one hand and sticking two fingers in the air with the other hand and saying to himself "fk you fans you're never going to hear these because I get paid for holding them back".

He probably has the 1945 Talent show wire recording of "old shep" as well.

Yeah, but it's in mono & there's definitely a glitch in the second verse.

I reckon they are Elvis supporters & would like to do the best they can for other fans.
But they work for a commercial company which wants to squeeze maximum profit out of the product.
This leads to them having to do things [like holding back the flip sides of the acetates] that satisfy their employer's financial needs,
even if this is sometimes annoying [& expensive] for the rest of us.
For clarity, here are the release dates for the 4 acetate sides:
____________________________________________________________________
My Happiness
On 1990 album: Great Performances.
the flipside:
That's When Your Heartaches Begin
On 1992 5-CD set: The Complete 50's Masters - The King of Rock 'n' Roll
____________________________________________________________________
I'll Never Stand in Your Way
On 1997 4-CD set: Platinum - A Life in Music
The flipside:
[It Won't Seem the Same] Without You
On 1999 2-CD set: Sunrise

Can't see any logic in the 2 year gaps between sides of the same acetates apart from commercial greed...
reg wrote:Its probably important to know if RCA got rights to both sides at the same time.
Do you know that?

No, that's a possible excuse for the delays.
