Letter dated May 25, 1955 from Tom Parker to Bob Neal

Postby pbelard@hotmail.com » Sat Mar 18, 2023 12:48 pm

In May 1955 Tom Parker wrote a letter to Bob Neal re Elvis. It is an interesting letter. Parker mentions "rotten apples" in the music business. Later on in the letter, he wrote " I am not one of the type of personalities that tries to cut out a manager, as you well know a good many would do and perhaps are trying to do."

No doubt this sentence was a great comfort to Hank Snow when he was pushed out of the contract he and Parker had with Elvis!

My question is: Does anybody have a cleaner version of the letter and is it known whether

Does anybody know which P.O. boxes Colonel Parker used and for which did he use them?
Here I see P.O.Box 217 for Jamboree Attractions.
I have also seen 219 and 220.

Is that not 417 on the Jamboree Attractions letterhead above?

Does anyone know when parker first saw or became aware of Elvis?
It's obvious from this letter in May, that he had already helped out with some bookings.
It's amazing how fast Elvis caught on without even the internet, TV, or a national hit.
The people just knew.

It's funny how the first paragraph is written at double space, while the rest of the letter is single space. He realized he would need two paper sheets, right ? Maybe he ran out of paper.

Yes, ha ha. If I'm not mistaken, every example I have seen of a typewritten letter sent by Parker was done at single space, and often a single paragraph, which shows extremely bad taste.

Is this letter full of irony or is it just me?
