Hank Williams and other artists have 100+ surviving audio of their performances and they were years before Elvis.

While it's true that tons of radio broadcasts by Hank Williams have survived, relatively few of them are from the Grand Ole Opry and the Louisiana Hayride, to name the two most popular c&w radio shows of the era.

Most of the surviving Williams broadcasts come from specially sponsored shows like Mother's Best, Garden Spot, and Health & Happiness. In those cases, special acetates were cut at a recording studio (usually the same studio Hank used in Nashville for his official recordings), and were distributed to stations for broadcast - they were not actual live recordings in front of an audience. It's from copies of those acetates that record releases have been processed.

By the way, and at the risk of becoming boring, I'm selling a factory-sealed copy of the now-deleted 15 CD / 1 DVD set that includes all the surviving Mother's Best recordings by Hank. Take a look at the pertinent section in this board, please.

There is no footage of Elvis performing at the Louisiana Hayride
A collector revealed that in a November 1981 documentary about the Hayride

Much of the Hank Williams' audio consists of his Mother's Best shows form 1951. He pre-recorded those to acetate for airing at later dates while he was on the road. They survived because one of his friends salvaged them when WSM planned to junk them.

EDIT: I see Mister Moon mentioned this as well above.

Given that nearly all of the Elvis performance were done live for immediate broadcast, this may explain why so few survived.

Not sure if this has been posted or not before, but .....

"1955 Elvis & Johnny Cash-signed Program"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-P8h_kMhhLs

EP and Cash or not even listed (yet) in the program, because it was so early (?).
EP sig. is legit.
The evaluator doesn't really seem to know much about EP sigs. though. (It's a classic sig.)

Is the 1955 date correct? I would think '54, but I don't know much about this period.

At any rate, it's a cool 8-) item.

Johnny Cash's debut single came out as the summer of 1955 was starting, so it couldn't be 1954.

Elvis and Johnny also played on the same bill at the LH in early 1956, so there's another possibility.

I don't understand what they mean about Elvis not being listed. Surely he would be there were he to perform. And by 1955 he was pretty famous already, on a regional level. Maybe the signatures were done upon an older program not featuring them.

Yes, that's definitely possible too.
(She mentioned that Elvis was getting paid $18 a show, which today would be about $212 USD per show. Using up old stock - programs - is certainly cost effective when paying those prices for some show members.)

.

Is that woman on the right a so called expert? How come she claims then if the other person wouldn't have obtained in person that she thinks the Elvis autograph looks fake and not like looking at all like Elvis' handwriting?
Everything can be a fake but how she can say it's not looking at all like Elvis' signature? Because clearly it looks like it.
Some expert....
It shows you that the self proclaimed experts often are not worth 2 pennies.

The belt, if real, 6000 dollars?
From when is this show? 1954?

IMHO both items (belt, autograph) are "questionable" (to put it nicely).
(I posted it to demonstrate about the so-called "experts.")

I was at Graceland on the 15th of august in 1977.
Rang the doorbell (Vester was busy so I slipped through the gate) and Elvis answered and I asked for an autograph.
He instead gave me several jumpsuits and said that he will fake his death one day later so he doesn't need his stage costumes anymore.
Flabbergasted I left with 2 boxes of clothes.
Are they worth something now?
