Norman Blagman - demos

Postby colonel snow » Fri Apr 12, 2024 9:45 am

I’ve opened this new topic “Norman Blagman – demos”. More posts with this subject on topic “Randy Starr” derailed now.

I still found another song not mentioned in the catalog of Norman Blagman (see previous post(s) on topic Randy Starr).

How does it feel (Ruth Batchelor-Norman Blagman)
Published Hill & Range – copyright 18-10-63

Anything known about a link with a recording session by Elvis?

colonel snow,

Thank you for creating the thread. Immediately after this post, I will send Woody a link to this new thread. I think we should give a little backstory to Norman Blagman in this thread. Norman co-wrote two songs that Elvis recorded at RCA Victor Recording Studio B in Nashville, Tennessee on March 12-13, 1961. Those two songs were "Give Me The Right" and "Put The Blame On Me" and both were featured on the 1961 Elvis Presley album, "Something For Everybody." "Put The Blame On Me" was later featured in a scene with the lovely Jocelyn Lane in Elvis' 1965 Allied Artists Motion Picture, "Tickle Me," as well as the "Tickle Me" extended play (EP) here in the U.S.

Recently, Norman's son, Woody Blagman created a website where you can purchase and download four songwriter demos of songs that his father had written that were submitted for Elvis Presley's consideration to record at various points.

Woody also made available a free download of "Snow Bunny" by Steve Leeds, recording under the alias of Magnus T. Cook & The Oath of Sound. Woody claimed on the website that Elvis was offered the opportunity to record "Snow Bunny" in 1967. After a little digging, I found that the Magnus T. Cook & The Oath of Sound recording of "Snow Bunny" was released as a single in 1972. On the website, Woody claimed that this recording of "Snow Bunny" was featured in a recent film titled "Merry Good Enough."

I think it's also appropriate to post a link to the Randy Starr thread where I first mentioned about Woody Blagman offering some of his father's songwriter demo recordings for download.

I've also included a screenshot of the email inviting Woody to join us in this thread.

Hopefully, Woody joins us here on Phoenix forum. I would love to see a Bear Family style CD or two featuring the Norman Blagman demo recordings, provided that there are enough of them to justify a CD. It could be titled, "Norman Blagman - Presley Style: Lost Elvis Songwriter Demos."

I’m afraid Woody Blagman is not interested to participate on the forum.
A disc with demo versions from his father on Bear Family label is far away and I think forget the idea.
