At Sahara Tahoe 3AM 1973 (MRS)

Postby TheKingForever » Mon Apr 29, 2024 4:25 pm

What a fine release this is,the sound quality is simply stunning.
I have heard over the last few weeks/months from other that the sound
on this was amazing but I had no idea it was this good.
Its simply amazing what can be done with old mono cassette recordings now a days.
Highly recommended.

Agreed. I highly recommend it. My local radio station has even played a few songs from it a while back.

I don't think the source is a mono cassette source. The Source is the FTD CDs.

If not from cassette, what else could it be?
It is well known that Dinner At Eight FTD was taken from reel to reel but never heard
anything about these shows had the same source.
I havent heard the FTD release of the may 13 1973 shows in a long time but I remember them as
typical mono soundboard sound.
What ever the source this new MRS sounds simply amazing :D

Which FTD CDs ?

Keith's site doesn't mention any [or even this release as yet].

I really like the version of "What Now My Love", in the final part he goes higher, instead of staying at the same note like in Aloha.

The only Lake Tahoe footage, is from the May 13 1973 3am, which is featured in this release!

Keith's site does list it, the FTD release is named "Takin' Tahoe Tonight" and the MRS release is named "Elvis At 3am".

This is what threw me off track:

I don't have the CDs yet, but went by this ad - the smaller text explains the actual dates involved !

FTD CDs come from cassette and there were more than one copy

That is correct but I am pretty sure if MRS had a bunch of cassette soundboards they would pick the ones unreleased instead of concerts that oh coincidence, FTD already put out. You have to be really naive to think MRS worked from a cassette tape instead of the FTD CDs because if they did, they would say so in their promotion flyer.

Not naïve, they did it for this

And that one seems to be the extent of the unreleased soundboards they've acquired as every concert they've released since then has already been out before on CD, mostly by FTD.

To me it really doesnt matter if the source was original cassette,FTD or bootleg as they all came from a soundboard mono source and im really impressed what they achived regarding sound upgrade.
I do wonder if it would make any difference if MRS had the original 1973 master tape instad of a CD source or god forbid a cassette that was a copy of a copy.
