so, I just listened to all 4 discs. overall a winner. A must have.
Not too much editing I could spot right off.
Take 18 FS is not here from the "slicin' sand" session.
This could have been a 3 disc set but Ernst insists on including the master twice. When one is not even needed.
A few things I wanted to point out and that is a list of songs pictured in the booklet.
Songs like, "Playing with Fire", "Hawaiian Sunrise", and others have been on rumored to have been recorded by
elvis for years. One wonders at what point was this list made. Was it a proposed list of to be recorded, or what was recorded?
Also, a picture of a tape file on the back on the disc foldout holder could be fake because it shows take numbers
that were not included here at all.
Hawaiian Sunset take 11, when we only get takes 1- 7.
Hawaiian Wedding song take 14, when we only get takes 1 & 2.
Moonlight swim take 7, when we only get takes 1-4.
Beach boy blues take 12, when we only get takes 1-3.
Rocka hula baby take 6, when we only get takes 1-5.
These take numbers seem way off on many of these songs. Is there missing reels of tape?
Anyway, I'm really liking the 8 inch format. As long as Ernst keeps his fingers off the edit button,
we should be ok.
But, again, it's also about what goes where and which sessions go with each other.
Not fond of Soundtracks getting mixed such as including "Wild in the country" with the "Something for everybody" sessions, when
they are not even from the same year, and "Wild in the country" and "Flaming star" both from 1960, and both soundtracks,
would have made a fantastic coupling.
Any other observations are welcome.
