They could have used a better image. I've seen more flattering photos from the Austin show, for example, and the background on this one makes it look like Elvis is performing in a working men's club...

(Ironically) The pictures they are using for the covers (Vol. 1, 2 of this series) aptly reflect Elvis' true condition (some of the content/singing) on the CDs. There are better pictures available though. (I don't think their selection was intentional, however. More likely, just more haphazardness from FTD.)


PS: Not complaining, (I'll get Vol. 2) .... but Vol. 2 sure is coming out QUICKLY! (What's the rush?) I am still listening to Vol. 1 (LOL!)

I guess they aren't doing anything different from the bootleggers then, and fans have come to expect photos that reflect the contents of the discs, with the old RCA approach from the last years of Elvis' career now a thing of the past.

It's still seems a bit strange that they went to great lengths to manipulate a 1976 image though, when they are happy to publish unflattering shots from 1977...

The picture used for Volume 2 is from early in the show in Baltimore, and we all know how that turned out... . E must have felt god-awful while that picture was taken. I kinda wish they had used a picture from the actual tour instead. Then again I'm glad they didn't photoshop him into a slim and trim looking guy like they did on one of the panels from "From Louisiana And Memphis". So I guess I can live with the one from Baltimore.

The years 1976 and 1977 are part of the story that FTD set out to document. And he could still sing whenever he put his heart into it. "Girl Happy" is also tragic, just in a different kind of way.

I don't see it that way. It's just that (to my knowledge) the folks at FTD have access to a decent amount of recordings from both of E's final years with nothing (or very little?) left to release from earlier touring years such as 1970 or 1971. An abundance of concerts from 1974 were released in recent years, so these brand new titles with a focus on 1977 are a welcome change in FTD's itinerary.

The title remains available at individual dealers until they sell out. Dealers won't be able to re-stock from FTD.

(I agree, Vol. 2 is a must have for you. It's also the first concert on Disc One.)
