What a shame Fort Lauderdale Chamber Of Commerce isn't included.

Nevertheless, do we know where these were stored and how they were discovered? I wonder what condition they are in?

I remember them for auction several years ago......

and who bought them?

Who was selling them?

Probably a collector, who was nice enough to share them with FTD…. ;).

That's speculation now. If it was a collector, will they be credited on the upcoming release? No, I think there's more to it than that.

The auction I think these acetates were sold was the big one held at MGM (Las Vegas) back in 1999, when the Elvis estate sold many original Elvis items.

B179: "Girl Happy" acetate contains "Do Not Disturb," "Startin' Tonight," "Do The Clam," "Girl Happy," "I Gotta Find My Baby," "Spring Fever," "Cross My Heart," "Wolf Call" and many more with a total of twenty-five singles.

https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/elvismo ... t1103.html

Or they could come from another auction for several Viva Las Vegas & "Girl Happy" acetates belonged to an original MGM audio engineer back in 2015. Some of these acetates match with the showing list.... ;).

"The Meanest Girl in Town," "Wolf Call," "Do The Clam," "I Gotta Find My Baby" and "Starting Tonight." The group emanates from an MGM audio engineer

There are some audio acetates taken from lp, cd & cassette still showing up on youtube since 11 years ago and posted by a well known Elvis collector @drghanem. I recall him from several Elvis websites....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4DBlM4qfgE

And several audio acetates were included on import cds like "From Santa Monica Boulevard Los Angeles, California.

I´m so happy that "The Girl Happy Sessions" will be released, never in my life I thought this could be released, after reading many alternate takes were missing....

Ernst Jorgensen; It Happened At The World´s Fair, Harum Scarum, Flaming Star, Follow That Dream, in no particular order, next please!!!!! 8-).

I didn't know that there is a version of "Meanes Girl in town " longer than the master?
I mean, the outtakes have the same length as the master.
Additionally, I hope that the long versions of songs like "I've got to find my baby" are not speeded up in the same way as the shortened master on the Girl Happy album.

If there ever is an opportunity to release those songs in the speed they were recorded....than it is on this set.
Because 4 - 5 songs on this soundtrack were since the 60s only released in their speeded up version which makes them imo sound very very bad.

When this soundtrack first came out, did we know it was speeded up? When did we first find out this was the case?

For what it's worth, the 1984 edition of "Recording Sessions" mentions the title track as being speeded-up. Earlier than that, I don't know.

I don't think we knew for a long time. Were we even aware that this was a possibility? Why would they even do such a thing?

So eventually, somewhere, we were told it was to make Elvis sound younger so that he could compete with the pop stars of the day. I don't remember in 1964 thinking that Elvis sounded old.

The "Girl Happy" soundtrack was recorded in June 1964, at the height of Beatlemania in the US, after the first visit of the band the previous February. The way I see it, this soundtrack, and a few later ones, includes several winks at the fad, trying to make Elvis look hep among it all, and, of course, failing miserably. In this context, speeding-up was just another cheap trick.

And not just the audio.

The 4-member singing group in the film had them all dressed the same as each other.

Seems they were trying to emulate the look of the Beatles [failed again]:

True. We didn't know.
But those 4-5 songs always sounded odd to me concerning the voice of Elvis (I didn't suspected a speed up), so now it would be nice to hear the benefit of the normal speed, so those songs can sound better.

Yes, that too was a nod to the group hysteria going on then.
I am glad that they didn't forced Elvis wearing a Beatles mop top hairstyle.
That would have been the final insult.

It's mess really. I hope the new set fully explains what was done and hopefully we'll get the altered tracks at the correct speed. After all, I don't think there's any need to compete with any fads now, unless they want to make him sound like Taylor Swift.

Someone has created a video showing lady co-stars with the audio of the song Girl Happy:

https://vimeo.com/1034179872?share=copy

Some of the choices for lady co-stars are odd & some obvious ones not mentioned !

On a technical note: the audio has been clumsily extended to match the length of the visual.
