The original release has the Mello Men backing him. The version with the female overdubs was eventually released on the "I Believe : The Gospel Masters set.

I never really thought about that. Since you mention. It does look funny as hell What do you reckon Colin ? Is it the Sweets overdubs ?

Could be............ or The Blossoms !

I seem to remember this was discussed at length when the track first appeared.

I just did a bit of research !

From FECC:

The Blossoms are also a part of the soundtrack sessions for "The Trouble With Girls ..." in late 1968, as their backing vocals appear on the 2009 box set I Believe: The Gospel Masters and the song "Sweet Down, Sweet Chariot."
They had not been heard before this release, nor are they in the film sequence for the song.
