Swing Down sweet Chariot (New edit)

Postby WalterHaleJnr » Wed Mar 11, 2015 1:39 pm

This is very impressive editing. Is that the Sweet Inspirations that was dubbed on? Whatever, it complements the overall sound. Worth a listen.

An interesting listen Walter, thanks !

It's a scream seeing his backing group [The Bible Singers] - four middle-aged men - but hearing the sweet tones of an all-girl group !

The original release has the Mello Men backing him. The version with the female overdubs was eventually released on the "I Believe : The Gospel Masters set.

Could be............ or The Blossoms !

I seem to remember this was discussed at length when the track first appeared.

Late Entry:

I just did a bit of research !

From FECC:

drjohncarpenter wrote:The Blossoms are also a part of the soundtrack sessions for "The Trouble With Girls ..." in late 1968, as their backing vocals appear on the 2009 box set I Believe: The Gospel Masters and the song "Sweet Down, Sweet Chariot."
They had not been heard before this release, nor are they in the film sequence for the song.

Keith's site has the Blossoms listed, the information has been there for ages.

As I mentioned above,
The original release has the Mello Men backing him. The version with the female overdubs was eventually released on the "I Believe : The Gospel Masters set.
