Tarantino a Charro fan?

Postby Rickeap » Sun Jan 31, 2016 1:06 pm

I watched Hateful 8 last night and Samuel L. Jackson's character is named Marquis Warren, after the director of Charro and many other westerns. Sadly Charro wasn't as good as Hateful 8, or as bloody.

It's possibly more of a tribute to Marquis Warren than Charro, as suggested here:

It is more a tribute to the westerns, specifically the spaghetti westerns. Maybe Tarantino is a big fan of the TV series "Gunsmoke" as Warren is more noted for his role as the director and script writer of many episodes of the series.

Trivia: Kurt Russell was with Elvis in "it Happened At The World's Fair" and his dad Bing Russell played Vernon in the TV movie "Elvis. Jennifer Jason Leigh's dad Vic Morrow appeared in "King Creole."

I love Tarantino's Movies, and the Hateful Eight is on my list of must see movies.

I'm a big Western fan and I like Charro but it's not a great western at all and i rarely watch it.

I'm glad that at least Elvis Movie career ended on a high note with Change of Habit and not Charro or The Trouble with Girls.

Well we know that Tarantino loved Speedway, so why not Charro?

I thought The Hateful 8 was very boring. Tarantino started well but it's been ever decreasing circles this past 20 years with the odd exception.

I haven't seen it, but my son & his wife didn't reckon much of it.

And he's quite a fan of Tarantino !

I enjoyed Hateful 8. I realise the tribute was more broad but wondered if there was a link to Charro.

I agree.

His fisrt two films, are a total delight, especially "Reservoir Dogs", which in my opinion is a total masterpiece.

After the big bang that was "Pulp Fiction" (hey, people talked about Link Wray and Dick Dale !), I used to joke that Tarantino's next film should be a silent, black-and-white one, as a way of giving the finger to the industry, but it was not to be.

The third film, "Jackie Brown" (1997), was already a let-down, and he's not recovered since then, except for, maybe, "Inglourious Basterds".

In 1999, Aki Kaurismäki directed a silent, black-and-white film, "Juha".

But he's not as well-known as Tarantino.

The last Tarantino film I enjoyed was "The Inglourious Basterds." with great performances by Christopher Waltz and Michael Fassbender.

Totally agree, guys. Even Django Unchained was a letdown. QT's far to fond of profanity and I'm not at all prudish but after a while it becomes very irritating. Trying too hard to be cool, maybe. 12 Years A Slave was a far better movie.

No, not Brad Pitt for me, not with his "trying too hard" ridiculous accent. 8-)

To be fair, I think that Brad was deliberately hamming it up in that role :)

That's a possibility, but some folks do talk like that 'down south'...
