JR is not even listed as being there in 1980. I guess it was done at the original session.

Thank you. I was not recognising the voice of Jerry Reed as I only knew his original of guitar man from the 60s.
He sounded different here....but maybe the high spirit he delivers here may not me recognise him the first time.
Good version.

I presume you don't mean the session in 1967, do you?
Or what do you mean.
Elvis and him singing a duet in 1967 and new guitar overdub in 1980?

We know Jerry was at the original session, so maybe that's when they did the duet, but they decided to shelve it because Jerry sounds to rough. On the other hand if it was 1980, Jerry isn't listed as being there. Maybe Felton let him put his voice on at a different time. Jerry does sound a little older, so I'd hazard a guess it was after 1967.

As far as I know Felton Jarvis tried out in january 1980 and next months: new backing tracks - new vocal overdubs / duets; it looks this is a mix from both try-outs.

I would Never even think that on the original master (it's Elvis ' master vocal of the record master, thats why a live singing duet with Elvis is impossible ) or on any try out Jerry reed sang along with Elvis live in 1967 as a duet.
The only thing which that could have happened ( and I highly doubt that) that Jerry overdubbed his vocal in 1967 after the complete vocal master laid down by Elvis before. After Elvis sang the song alone all by himself with only his vocal.
But never he created a real duet with Elvis live singing with him.
Because Elvis sang the master straight through.
So either reed overdubbed his vocal in 1967, which I doubt, on Elvis ' version....or more likely in 1980.
But not a real live duet in 1967 which I am sure about.

If I misunderstood you, I apologize.

It was overdubbed in Nashville in 1980 during the remake sessions. I believe Reed played electric guitar on the remake version.
