Some additions to the timeline:

March 27, 1953 - The hardback "Stay Away, Joe" is published. Cost is $3.00 (from NY Times)

January 8, 1954 - The paperback is published. Cost is $.25

August 28, 1956 - It is announced that they will make a movie version of the book instead of a Broadway play.

November 2, 1956 - It is announced that the book will be made into a Broadway play (a musical).

March 14, 1957 - Actor Bob Fosse is signed for a major role in the Broadway play.

January 15, 1958 - Plans are again changed to make a movie instead of a play.

January 29, 1958 - Back to a Broadway with a new title "Whoop-up"

March 4, 1958 - Paperback is reprinted. Cost is $.25

December 18, 1958 - The musical comedy play "Whoop-up" opens on Broadway with Ralph Young as Joe, Susan Johnson as Glenda and Paul Ford as the car salesman.

Once again today I tried hard to sit through this movie. The first ten minutes is just people hollering and screaming. I really struggle to get past the 30 minute mark and can not
find any discernible merit to it, other than at the time it was different from the rest of Elvis' movies (even "Harum Scarum" is more interesting than this). I really dont understand the appeal of this but I have tried, can someone convince me? Incidentally I read the book a long time ago and remember enjoying it.

I've watched it once all the way through, and then snippets here and there.

It's a mess, the make up is crap, there's a lot of nonsense going on, and it's hard to watch. The saving grace is Dominic!
