The Battle of New Orleans was written by teacher James Corbitt Morris in 1936. The melody is based on the American fiddle tune ‘The 8th of January’, which was the date of the battle.

Here’s a version played on fiddle and guitar by Bill and Jessie Robinson from Voices from the Dust Bowl: The Charles L. Todd and Robert Sonkin Migrant Worker Collection, 1940 to 1941.
