They still haven't really found out exactly what the lyrics mean !
At school, we used to sing the same tune [
Londonderry Air] as a hymn with words that were just as baffling:
'O, Son of Man, our hero strong & tender'.
No idea what that was all about...

So Elvis was no composer but I noticed he made some lyric changes in this song
"All the roses falling" to "all the roses dying"
"It's you, it's you" to "'Tis you, 'tis you"
"And I shall sleep in peace" to "And I shall rest in peace"
Elvis sings the songs in the words that means something to him …. He is definitely not a technical singer.
