On the day I got married [3rd August 1963] the UK No.1 single was:

[You're The] Devil in Disguise/Please Don't Drag That String Around

Haha. While I don't remember the actual day, I do remember it being a chart topper.

Back when there was some good & varied stuff in the UK Top Ten !

Interesting to see pre-rock 'n' roll performers still having hits like Andy Williams, Guy Mitchell, Johnnie Ray & Nat 'King' Cole.

Elvis is there [his Too Much peaked at No.6 & was a No.1 in the US].

The exciting 'new' skiffle music is represented by UK's Lonnie Donegan & Nancy Whiskey.

Country music [less popular here than in the US] has Slim Whitman doing his bit.

Memories !

Due to heart problems and diabetes I get 11 different medicines prescribed, the 11th one by cardio specialist at the hospital where I was admitted for a short week.
Upon presenting the prescription to my local pharmacy I was told I have to pay an additional € 150,00 per month for this medicine as the health insurance does not cover this.
So I took the prescription, went back to the hospital, which has a pharmacy department near the entrance hall, presented the prescription and ..... got the medicine without any additional payment.
Next month I went to my local pharmacy again and the same problem. So I informed them when the hospital pharmacy told me i.e. that when you are prescribed medicine A & B and in addition get prescribed medicine C because A & B do not enough for your illness, it gets paid by the health insurance.
For 1 1/2 year I got the medicine without additional payment from my local pharmacy. And 2 weeks agio they just stopped supplying it! No explanation, no warning, nothing.
So I asked my doctor for a prescription, went to the hospital pharmacy and got the medicine. And I told the local pahrmacy from now on I will get all medicine prescribed from the hospital pharmacy. They were not happy. Neither am I because this means I have to walk 20 minutes (and back) to get my medicine instead of 5 minutes. Also I have to pick it up, no home delivery if necessary. And due to strict rules no-one else can pick up my medicine.
All this because someone at the local pharmacy does not know the rules.

I was just going through my extensive Truly Awful and Oddities playlist on my iPod and found Danny Mirror’s “I remember Elvis Presley”. I remember as a kid thinking what an awful song and of course he remembers him, he’s only been dead for two bloody weeks for God’s sake.
Go on - I bet there’s someone out there that’s going to say they liked it.

I was 15 at the time and even at that age I knew what a piece of crap that was.

Did you buy it or download it in order to have it on your Truly Awful and Oddities playlist? If it's such an awful song, why have it at all?

I never bought it, I'm not even sure if I have an mp3 of it, although it's quite likely that I do. I guess that so soon after El's death so many songs came out about him, that we collected them, one way or another. I don't have any physical "tribute" singles, but I think I have some digital files...or do I? I can't even remember. I'll have to check.

Amnesia is, sadly, something that comes to all of us.

It's an 'age' thing...

Ah yes, why do I have it - well my music collection is exactly that. I have anything and everything l can recall that I have heard and it includes TV themes, Classical, and as a joke the Truly Awful and Oddities playlist - more for amusement than anything else. Obviously, there is a lot of stuff that skips when on shuffle. Some other classics featured to check out:
There’s No-one Quite Like Grandma by The St Winifred’s School Choir (and a No 1)
Orville’s Song by Keith Harris
I Love Onions by Susan Christie
If by Telly Savalas (another No 1)
Old McDonald by Elvis (sadly never No 1)

Unfortunately, my beloved iPod also has a couple of Rolf Harris and Gary Glitter (that obviously never get played) but they are part of the history of music.

I have often said to the Mrs that l can’t believe that if one of the Fab Four was ever alleged to have done something awful in the past that we would never hear a Beatles record played again - enough said.
