With all due respect to Dolly Parton, the induction into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame has become something of a joke. Why don't they just call it the Music Hall of Fame, that would just fit better. Dolly Parton didn't become famous as a rock'n'roll singer, nor has she contributed significantly to this style of music, so she shouldn't be inducted into a hall of fame of that name. It's seems to me like inducting Tom Brady into the Baseball Hall of Fame for playing it in high school (so good, by the way, that he was drafted by the Montreal Expos in 1995)
Dolly apparently was aware of this controversy and wrote to her nomination: "
Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don't feel that I have earned that right." But then the voting was already open, in the end she probably didn't want to offend the fans who wanted to see her (for whatever reason) in this Hall of Fame and she accepted it. Though I'm not exactly her biggest fan either, I have to admit that this lady is in a class of her own.
