I'm not sure that's correct, although how do you diagnose it?

I've known four, maybe five alcoholics in my life.

I'd say three of them definitely had mental health issues, although you'd have to know these people well to recognise it. They hid their issues well and you'd have to almost live with them to see the little things they did that added up to show that they had mental problems.

Of the other two, I was too young to know one of them well. The remaining one was an alcoholic pure and simple, drinking from morning to night, still functioning after a fashion, and even asking for alcohol on his death bed. I never detected mental health issues with him, although what started him on the evil drink path, I don't know. He was already an alcoholic when I first met him.

Just as an example of what I was saying, this popped up in my YT screen. The video was uploaded three years ago. Sad stuff.

That was pretty much his natural state for years, so what else would they depict?

Yes, that's what I mean. It was the natural state of that band since day one. Everybody knew / knows that, so what's the point of remarking that, yet again. Why not highlight any artistic merits their music would have ?

I mean, there's been tons of drunkards and junkies in music history. No need to mention any names. Do we need to remember that fact at every single opportunity ? Let's listen to their music, if it is any good !

Sadly it's part of human nature and applies not only to people in the public eye, but also friends and family. You bring up their frailties before recognising the good person they are, or the good things they do for others, or their talents.

A Viz Comics annual from 2002. I'm sure Shane would have approved.
