He did record eight tracks at 706 Union, at two separate 1956 sessions, and among the musicians were Johnny Bernero on drums and Johnny Black (Bill's brother) on bass. All those titles remained in the can, and all but one have been released by now. My favourite one is this early take of "Rakin' And Scrapin'", which he would re-record in 1957, using very much the same arrangement. This take is superior, though, I believe. I always used to spin this track whenever I was invited to dj at R&R meetings many years ago, and people went invariably nuts :
